I inherited an HP dc5700 Microtower. It wasn't posting, so I found that it had a bad stick of RAM. Took out the 1 GB worth and put in 4GB worth.

It had a Pentium D dual core processor (1.8GHz), and I swapped it for a Core 2 Duo (2.8Ghz). When it booted, I got a 'Microcde Update Error' 1801. From what I'm reading, I need to update the bios because it currently doesn't support L2 cache over 512K. The Core2 Duo has 3M cache..

All I could find online through HP was to update from 1.01 to 1.06, but from what I'm seeing, it has a 2.04 in it.

I'm fairly knowledgeable, and can do this myself.. I'm just not sure what I need to update to and where to get it. Also, does the mobo have a physical limitation to only have 512k L2 cache? Or can that be adjusted to a bigger cache. I'm confused because the computer the Core2Duo chip came from a computer with an older mobo..
